Kori D. Miller

WRITER ♦ EDITOR ♦ TUTOR

You want research-based articles about popular psychology topics. I’ve got you covered! Any length from 500-word blog posts to 8000-word articles to inform and/or entertain your readers is right up my alley.

I’m a hunter-gatherer of information about a variety of subjects. Research takes time, but if that’s not what you have, I’ll take the load off you.

You need another set of eyes on your writing project. Whether it’s website content, research papers, articles, or books, I can help you make your copy shine. My go-to style guides are APA, MLA, and CMS. If you prefer AP, let me know.

With both TEFL and TESOL certification, and over 15 years experience working with English language learners, I understand the challenges of acquiring another language. Learning an unfamiliar language can be scary. I can help you have more fun while you do it!

What do you write?

My niche is positive, behavioral, and neuro-psychology. I focus on topics ranging from Flow Theory and well-being to positive aging, and more.

I especially enjoy writing about how to apply the research to everyday life.  For example, how can learning MBSR reduce the number of migraines a person experiences? How does the vagus nerve affect our sense of well-being and happiness?

You can read some of my work on the Positive Psychology Program website. Articles include:

How much do you charge?

Rates are per project. All prices are USD.

BLOG POSTS

Every project is original, but you can expect a well-written blog post to cost:

  • $250 – $400 for 500- to 750 words
  • $500 – $1000 for 750- to 1000 words
  • $1000 – $2000 for 1000- 2000 words

We can discuss keywords, sub-headings you’d like included, etc. during the initial email exchange, and status check-in points.

ARTICLES

What’s the difference between an article and a blog post? This comes down to references/research required, and if you want interviews included.

The cost of articles varies. The base rate for a 500- to 750-word article is $375 and includes 1-2 references. Lengthier projects vary from $375 to $3000+.

RESEARCH

When researching blog posts or articles, I use peer-reviewed material from ResearchGate and/or a search via Google Scholar. Sometimes, I use various library databases. Besides this, and depending on the subject, I may cite organizations like the Mayo Clinic, American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, or educational institutions. Basically, I dig until I find reliable sources.

Rates are:

NOTE: All fees stated here are subject to change without notice. I charge a non-refundable fee of 50% before work begins on any article greater than 500 words. We will communicate most often through email, but if we need a meeting, I’m available through Skype or Zoom. Any meeting exceeding 30 minutes will incur a fee of $250 USD per hour.

You may pay via PayPal or Stripe and will receive an invoice from Miller-Ericksen Ent., Inc. Work begins after I receive the required non-refundable deposit.

If you have any further questions, please contact me directly. I look forward to hearing about your project!

Editing/Fact-Checking/Proofreading Explained

Beverages and editing share one thing in common – different sizes for different needs. And like Starbucks, I thought it would be fun to give the sizes special names. I borrowed mine from *Esperanto.

Malpeza (Light edit)

  • Correct faulty spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Correct incorrect usage (such as can for may).
  • Check specific cross-references (for example, “As Table 14-6 shows…”).
  • Ensure consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization.
  • Check for proper sequencing (such as alphabetical order) in lists and other displayed material.
  • Record the first references to figures, tables, and other display elements.

A light copy edit does not involve smoothing transitions, changing heads, or text to ensure parallel structure. I check your content to find copy that is missing.

Meza peza (Medium edit)

  • Perform all tasks for light copy editing.
  • Change text and headings to achieve parallel structure.
  • Flag inappropriate figures of speech.
  • Ensure the consistent use of key terms.
  • Ensure that vocabulary lists and the index contain all the terms that meet criteria specified by the publisher.
  • Ensure that previews, summaries, and end-of-chapter questions reflect content.
  • Track the continuity of plot, setting, and character traits in fiction manuscripts.
  • Enforce consistent style and tone in a multi-author manuscript.
  • Change passive voice to active voice, if requested.
  • Flag ambiguous or incorrect statements.

Peza (Heavy edit)

  • Perform all tasks for medium copy editing.
  • Eliminate wordiness, triteness, and inappropriate jargon.
  • Smooth transitions and move sentences to improve readability.
  • Assign new levels to heads to achieve logical structure.
  • Suggest additions and deletions. I may note these at the sentence or paragraph level for a manuscript, but not for an online blog post/article.

My overall aim is to help you make your writing shine. A heavy copy edit improves the flow of your text and isn’t just about correcting your grammar.

* Esperanto is a created language spoken around the world by about 2 million people. Cool, huh? I’m not fluent, yet.

Proofreading

This happens after you’ve edited your MS and your ready to hit the publish button. I check the text for errors, including typographical errors and problems with typesetting specifications and page makeup. A style sheet is helpful during this process but unnecessary. Not having one means we’ll chat more than usual, probably via email.

Fact-checking

I verify the accuracy of your nonfiction content. For example, if you make a claim that X leads to Y, then I will research whether your claim holds water. If you reference a study, then I will check that study against what you’ve written.

ESL Tutoring

I work with adults, young adults, and children. My goal is to help you become more comfortable speaking English with a native speaker, but we also can develop each of the other skills — reading, writing, and listening.

We’ll meet through Google Meet. Lessons are 15 or 30 minutes. Before each lesson, you’re responsible for telling me what you’d like the focus to be. For example: practice conversational skills, reading, review a piece of writing, prepare for a test or an interview, improve listening skills, learn basic greetings, or phonics.

Cancellation Policy

If you’re unable to meet at our agreed upon time, then you must cancel 24 hours in advance. If I’m unable to keep our meeting, I’ll show you the same courtesy. Excessive cancellations will negatively affect our working relationship, so we should strive to keep these to a minimum.

I understand emergencies happen that prevent us from communicating as expected, but I also expect these to be the exception, and not the rule.

Payment Policy

You’ll receive an invoice from MEEI/Kori D. Miller via PayPal.
